MENSAJE EN CONMEMORACION DEL DIA INTERNACIONAL DE LA REMEMBRANZA DE LA TRATA TRANSATLÁNTICA DE ESCLAVOS Y SU ABOLICIÓN
El 23 de Agosto de cada año el Mundo conmemora el Día Internacional de la Remembranza de la Trata Transatlántica de Esclavos Africanos y su Abolición. Esta fecha, escogida mediante Resolución 29 C/40 de la 29 Sesión de la Conferencia General de la UNESCO, recuerda la Emancipación de los Esclavos Haitianos el 23 de Agosto de 1791, hecho trascendental que inspiró a la emancipación de los esclavos de todo el Continente Americano.
A 230 años de esa histórica fecha, permanece impune la perversidad de la trata transatlántica y la industria de la esclavitud institucionalizada, un crimen de lesa humanidad - sin precedentes y las reparaciones para los Pueblos Africanos y Pueblos Afrodescendientes, víctimas de la crueldad y la ambición europea y norteamericana, sigue siendo una deuda que se niegan a repagar.
Al condenar el modelo político y económico que dio lugar a la esclavitud y al celebrar la abolición de ese terrible flagelo; el Pueblo y Gobierno de Reconciliación y Unidad Nacional de la República de Nicaragua, reconoce las valiosas contribuciones de los Pueblos Africanos y Afrodescendientes a la construcción de las Sociedades Europeas y Americanas, cuyo estilo de vida fue forjado sobre los hombros de más de 12 millones de seres humanos de fortaleza espiritual y valentía incomparable.

MESSAGE IN COMMEMORATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE OF THE TRANSATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE AND ITS ABOLITION
On August 23rd of each year the World commemorates the International Day of Remembrance of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its Abolition. This date, chosen by resolution 29C/40 of the 29th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO, recalls the Emancipation of the Haitian Slaves on 23rd August, 1791, a momentous event that inspired the emancipation of the slaves of the entire American Continent.
230 years after that historic date, the perversity of the transatlantic slave trade and the institutionalized industry of slavery-an unprecedented crime against humanity, remain unpunished and reparations for African and Afro-descendant Peoples, victims of European and North American cruelty and ambition, is still a debt that they refuse to pay.
As we condemn the political and economic model that gave way to slavery and as we celebrate the abolition of that terrible scourge; the People and Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua, recognize the valuable contributions of Africanand Afro-descendant Peoples in the construction of European and American Societies, whose lifestyle is forged upon the shoulders of more than 12 million human beings of great spiritual strength and unparalleled courage.
