GOVERNMENT OF RECONCILIATION AND NATIONAL UNITY
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA

VERBAL NOTE No. MRE/DG-_/2026

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua presents its compliments to the Honorable Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador and has the honor to refer to the statement issued today, October 8th 2026, by the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of El Salvador, disseminated through its official channels, which refers to an alleged transfer of cocaine from Nicaraguan territory, by sea, bound for Guatemala, using El Salvador as a transit country.

In this regard, the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua expresses its concern and rejects the statements disseminated in those terms, by a Public Prosecutor, who does not formally represent the State of El Salvador and who has made a pronouncement, with regard to another State, based on facts of which he has no record and without publicly presenting verifiable information, which might allow to know the basis of his pronouncement.

In this regard, the Government of Nicaragua respectfully requests the Government of the Republic of El Salvador to share with us, through the corresponding official channels, the available information on the facts referred to and the background supporting the pronouncement, including — to the extent that applicable rules may allow — the relevant documentation. Having these elements will allow us to assess responsibly what may have happened and offer the appropriate response, with due legal and diplomatic rigor.

The Government of Nicaragua considers that allegations of this nature should be addressed through a timely exchange of information between the competent authorities and via established diplomatic channels. This procedure will contribute to clarifying the facts and preserving the historical ties of friendship and cooperation which unite both peoples and governments.

Likewise, the Republic of Nicaragua reiterates its firm commitment to the prevention and combat of drug trafficking and all manifestations of transnational organized crime, within the framework of its sovereign policy of establishing a retaining wall against these threats. In this context, the Republic of Nicaragua remains ready to cooperate with the States of the region, in accordance with the corresponding mechanisms and procedures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua takes this opportunity to reiterate to the Honorable Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador the assurances of its highest and most distinguished consideration.

Managua, October 8th 2026
